Risk of hair loss may be reduced as expert highlights need for protein
Published: 16th of November 2009
Protein has been emphasised as an essential part of a healthy diet.Dietician Lisa Gibson recommended a number of steps to one family who are struggling to make time for good eating habits, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Kristy Noble, a substitute teacher who tutors pupils at home, was noted as rarely having a consistent routine.
She was urged to eat regularly throughout the day and focus on lean protein, as this means she is less likely to eat unhealthy snacks such as sweets, in addition to avoiding skipping meals.
Those who wish to lose weight should not simply stop eating, Ms Gibson explained, as this can slow the metabolism.
Failing to consume enough protein can lead to a number of health problems, with the nutrient known to help prevent hair loss among other complications.
And Dr Helga Dittmar of the University of Sussex recently warned that many women are putting their health at risk by eating too little in a bid to achieve the body look they see in magazines.
