Women advised to seek help over hair loss
Published: 10th of November 2009
Women who experience a greater degree of hair loss than is normal for them should seek help, it has been suggested.Good Housekeeping noted that some shedding is always to be expected, as different hairs are at various stages of their cycle at any given time.
This was cited as being the reason for some hairs to come out while washing or brushing - with these being more pronounced later in life as the diameter of fibres gets smaller.
But the publication added that sudden hair loss and obvious thinning can be caused by a number of factors and women may wish to seek treatment if this occurs.
Dr David Fenton, consultant dermatologist at St John's Institute of Dermatology, explained that stressful events such as divorce or bereavement can lead to the condition.
Last week, the Sun noted that former Olympic swimmer Duncan Goodhew attributes his hair loss to a stressful event in his childhood.
