Workplace stress contributing to hair loss?
Published: 9th of November 2009
Workplace stress contributing to hair loss? Employers need to encourage and support workers in order to ensure they do not suffer undue stress and anxiety, it has been suggested.

Neil Wilson, managing director at Badenoch & Clark, explained that feelings of job insecurity and a lack of communication are contributing to a rise in such problems - which can affect behaviour and productivity.

"We can't get rid of workplace stress, it will always be there," he said. "It's about how we are able to cope with it, deal with it and manage it."

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence has found that mental health problems are costing the UK around £28 billion each year.

Stress and anxiety can cause other health issues and one potential side effect is known to be hair loss, which could mean that a growing number of Britons are also set to be affected by this condition.

And this in turn could lead to further psychological problems, as recent research by Dr Nigel Hunt of the University of Nottingham revealed that problems such as depression are common in female hair loss sufferers in particular.
