Published: 5th of November 2009
Gail Porter has told of the psychological effect of losing her hair. The television presenter suffers from alopecia and wrote for the Sun that she was particularly concerned about the reaction of her two-year-old daughter when the process began.
Explaining that she began to experience hair loss five years ago while going through a divorce, Porter said that clumps would come out overnight during a period of two weeks.
"I became tearful because I didn't know what was happening to me," she stated.
But despite being worried about her daughter's response, Porter added: "She thought my bald head was cool."
The presenter went to explain that she has since been able to gain confidence and patches of hair have been growing back recently.
Newsreader Jennie Bond recently highlighted the impact that hair loss can have, arguing that people do not stop caring about their appearance as they get older and that it can be "extremely distressing whatever your age".
