Vitamins and protein 'the keys to healthy hair'
Published: 4th of November 2009
A range of vitamins and protein are needed in order to keep hair healthy, it has been observed.Writing for SiliconIndia, clinical nutritionist Kiranmayi Vaddey explained that hair is 88 per cent protein, with the nutrient being one of the most important aspects of the diet.
"Protein is the building block of hair," said the expert. "Protein will give the shaft of your hair more strength and will reduce the probability of damage"
Zinc was also described as being key to building protein, with a lack of it potentially leading to hair loss.
Consumers were advised to drink plenty of water, as this makes up a quarter of the weight of each strand and is essential in keeping them healthy.
Those concerned about the possibility of hair loss may wish to take advantage of supplements that can boost protein levels, particularly as dietician Dawn Jackson Blatner recently highlighted the importance of the nutrient to Delicious Living.
