Protein needed to prevent hair loss, expert says
Published: 2nd of November 2009
The importance of protein in reducing hair loss has been highlighted by an expert.Dietician Dawn Jackson Blatner was quoted by Delicious Living as stating that protein helps strengthen follicles that hold hairs in the head, preventing them from falling out.
Ensuring there is enough of the nutrient in a diet is vital in this regard, she said, with lean meat, chicken and fish among the main ways to include it.
Ms Jackson Blatner also highlighted the need to consume iron, as it helps promote growth by ensuring a good flow of blood.
In addition to poor nutrition, she suggested that anxiety and trauma can play a role in the condition, stating: "Reducing stress is an interesting piece of the puzzle and a possible part of hair loss prevention."
Protein was recently described as a key part of the diet by mydaughter.co.uk editor Alison Norris, who suggested that healthy eating habits should be encouraged early in life.
