Woman tells of psychological impact of hair loss
Published: 13th of October 2009
A woman who suffered hair loss at a young age has told of the psychological effect it had on her.Speaking to the Portsmouth News, Rachael Shaw explained that alopecia set in at the age of 16 and she was completely bald by the time she was 17.
"It happened at the worst time when I was a conscious teenager," she said. "You feel very alone, like you're the only person in the world with it and no-one else understands."
The news source observed that coping with the hair loss caused by alopecia can be particularly challenging, although it does not damage health.
But Ms Shaw noted that she regained her confidence and has been able to lead a normal life despite the condition, now being married with a five-year-old son at the age of 30.
Nutritionist Willow Jarosh recently told Life & Beauty Weekly that a well-balanced diet can help prevent hair loss.
